The HONMASTER HM20D is a two-spindle CNC honing machine designed for automatic machining of small-diameter bores. It is used in metalworking and various engineering industries to achieve the required bore size and surface roughness in components such as cylinders, bushings, liners, and similar parts.
The machine is equipped with two columns, allowing the complete machining cycle, including rough and finish honing, to be performed without removing the workpiece or resetting the tool. This significantly reduces auxiliary processing time.
Both machine columns move automatically along the X and Y axes.
The HM20D is equipped with two honing heads designed for precise, controlled expansion of the honing stones. Radial feed, or stone expansion, is performed automatically during the honing process, and the expansion amount is programmed through the CNC system.
Due to the small diameter of the bores being machined, an articulated honing tool design cannot be used. Instead, the machine uses rigid honing heads, while the workpiece is mounted in a gimbal-type fixture. The fixture provides four degrees of freedom, allowing the workpiece to align correctly with the honing tool.
The gimbal fixtures are mounted on a pneumatically actuated slide. In the far-left position, the bore is machined using roughing stones; in the far-right position, finishing stones are used.
The machine is equipped with an automatic collision protection system that helps prevent damage caused by operator error or unnoticed obstructions in the bore. At the start of each cycle, the machine checks the bore for obstacles, protecting the honing tool, stone holders, and the workpiece from damage.
At the end of the cycle, the machine automatically retracts the honing stones during the final stroke, preventing scratches or marks in the finished bore as the tool is withdrawn.
Active bore control and shape correction
The integrated active control and bore shape correction system continuously monitors bore geometry during machining. If a deviation from the specified geometry is detected, the system identifies the affected area and automatically performs short-stroke dwell honing at that location.
The control interface also displays a real-time load graph together with a visual representation of the moving honing tool, allowing the operator to monitor the active control process.
The system also includes automatic tool wear compensation, an especially important feature for high-volume production.
Machine control
The machine is operated through a touchscreen interface and can also be controlled using a remote pendant.
The proprietary Hontronik ACNC CNC system provides flexible control of the honing process and can be configured to meet customer-specific requirements.
Coolant system
The built-in coolant system features automatic activation and multi-stage filtration. A magnetic separator removes metal chips during primary filtration, while full-flow fine filters provide final filtration.
Coolant tank capacity: 160 L. The tank is located in the lower section of the machine and slides out on built-in guides for easy maintenance.
Automatic lubrication
The machine is equipped with an automatic lubrication system for the ball screws and linear guides. The lubrication station operates in coordination with the CNC system, helping extend the service life of these components and improve overall machine reliability.
The HONMASTER HM20D meets current industry standards and supports a wide range of precision honing operations with high machining accuracy and specified surface roughness requirements.
HONMASTER is the only manufacturer in Russia and the CIS producing CNC honing equipment with active in-process control and automatic bore shape correction.
The CNC system incorporates proprietary software developed in-house for automatic control of the honing process. The software is registered under Certificate of State Registration of Computer Program No. 2022618815.
